In February 2012, I started my 60 day juice cleanse.  Some people thought I was crazy and some people rather aggressively told me how stupid I was to do deprive myself of foods that our bodies require.

  • Vegetables - There are over 2 grams of protein in one cup of kale, over 2 grams of protein in 1/2 a cup of asparagus, and over 12 grams of protein in 1 cup of French beans.  
  • Fruit - There are 2 grams of protein in one cup of blackberries, 1 1/2 grams of protein in a cup of grapefruit and 4.71 grams of protein in one fresh pomegranate fruit.
  • To drink one 16 oz Green Monster Juice, you will get 8.9 grams of protein -   Recipe - 2 apples, thumb-sized piece of ginger root, 4 stalks celery, 1 cucumber, 1 lemon, 6 leaves of kale
  • Note- Though you will get a ton of protein in the fruits and vegetable juices that you drink, you will not be able to get your complete amino acid profile in juice alone.  However, in the short amount of time that you are able to juice, you should not develop a protein deficiency.  If you feel that you need more protein (complete amino acid profile) throw some chia in your juices.
  • While doing a juice cleanse, you are giving your body a break from the overexertion of breaking down inflammatory and over processed foods.  This break will allow your body to focus on other priorities such as healing certain areas of your body.  See The Different Juice Fasting Stages of Detoxification 
  • By juice fasting, you can expect increased energy, the ability to focus and concentrate better and a better feeling of well being.

2 carrots

1 apple including skin and core, sliced

1 large fistful of spinach

1 stick of celery

4 strawberries, with or without crown leaves

I lost 35 pounds on my 60 day juice cleanse,  Though I had already been eating healthy, this jump started my newest way of life - eating Raw and/or Paleo as much as possible.
